The course includes classroom and in-water sessions and practical teaching experience, according to a press release.
Prerequisites for this course are:
⢠Must be 16 years of age at course completion.
⢠Must pass a swim skills evaluation (Level 4), which includes 25 meters front crawl, back crawl, sidestroke, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, 15 meters butterfly, back float and tread water.
Completion of the course will allow graduates to teach the American Red Cross Learn to Swim levels 1-6, Parent and Child and Preschool Aquatics, Adult Swim levels 1-3 and a variety of water safety courses.
WSI certification is renewed by teaching and keeping current with the American Red Cross.

Scholarship applications follow specific criteria, including: leadership potential, community involvement, motivation, work ethics and the written presentation of an application essay.Â

Salida moved to Tier II of its COVID-19 action plan as of Friday.Â
The action came as a result of the county moving to âYellow Levelâ on the stateâs COVID-19 dial on Feb. 6.Â
As a result, city council and planning commission meetings along with meetings of all boards and commissions will allow limited in-person attendance for purposes of conducting public hearings beginning March 2.Â

In person testimony will be limited to 10 people in the meeting room at any given time, in addition to staff and board members.Â
