A Union, Kentucky, man has been charged after an Erlanger police officer was struck by a vehicle while helping students in a crosswalk Friday.
Francis Hendy, 65, has been charged with operating on a suspended license, driving without a license negligent in accident, and disregarding signals from an officer directing traffic, said police spokesman Officer Charlie Loudermilk in a release.
Erlanger police officer Joel Shepherd, who has been in law enforcement for the past 30 years and spent the last five years as a school resource officer, was hit at Commonwealth Avenue and Baker Street. He is the resource officer at Lindeman and Mile elementary schools in Erlanger.

Now 93, Massell lives in Buckhead with his wife, Sandra.

Keep an eye on your speedometer this morning. Officers in Northern Kentucky will be out in full force Wednesday to stop aggressive drivers.
Officers from six departments will spread out along Interstate 71/75 from the 275 interchange to the Brent Spence Bridge ready to cite any traffic infractions, starting at 8:00 a.m. Wednesday morning.
The added police coverage will come from Covington, Erlanger, Fort Mitchell, Park Hills, Villa Hills and Kenton County Police.
A grant from the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety is funding this campaign because of all the issues on this stretch of Interstate 71/75. In 2020, there were 112 injuries and 2 deaths from crashes on Interstate 71/75.

ERLANGER, Ky. (FOX19) - There is another food distribution happening Tuesday in Northern Kentucky.
This one offers a box of food to each family full of fresh meat, dairy, vegetables, and fruit.
If you need help, all you have to do is show up. The only question asked is how many people are in your family.
“Hopefully this little thing that we can do can make a big impact for some of those people,” says City of Erlanger Public Information Officer Charlie Loudermilk.
