The new Saline County jail that was approved by voters in this year s general election is one step closer Tuesday after the Saline County Commission approved the purchase of land in north Salina for the facility.
During its meeting Tuesday morning, the Saline County Board of Commissioners approved the purchase of almost 18 acres of land near the southeast corner of N. Front Street and E. Pacific Avenue, all within the city limits of Salina.
The commission was pleased to see this part of the process moving forward. This is an exciting time for me as a commissioner, for Saline County, this is a big deal, said Board Chairman Bob Vidricksen.
The Salina Law Enforcement Citizen Review Board will be officially established this week after final approval by the city commission on Monday.
At its Monday evening meeting, the Salina City Commission voted to approve, on second reading, an ordinance to establish the Citizen Review Board.
The board will consist of nine members appointed by the mayor with consent of the city commission, seven of which are citizens interested or experienced in police and/or community relations, a member fo the city s human relations commission and a current officer or sergeant of the Salina Police Department with at least three years of experience with SPD.
