The new Saline County jail that was approved by voters in this year's general election is one step closer Tuesday after the Saline County Commission approved the purchase of land in north Salina for the facility.
During its meeting Tuesday morning, the Saline County Board of Commissioners approved the purchase of almost 18 acres of land near the southeast corner of N. Front Street and E. Pacific Avenue, all within the city limits of Salina.
The commission was pleased to see this part of the process moving forward.
"This is an exciting time for me as a commissioner, for Saline County, this is a big deal," said Board Chairman Bob Vidricksen.
