TODAY marks the 100 year anniversary of the Dromcollogher Ambush, an incident from the War of Independence that took place on the streets of the village on May 14, 1921.
A patrol from the local RIC barracks (the former St Mary’s Secondary school on the Cork Road) is described by the Irish Military Archives as comprising of sixteen men, RIC, Tans, and Auxiliaries, armed, some with rifles, some with repeating shotguns, and some with revolvers.

Subscriber only A motorbike rider says he didn t see police behind him when he pulled a wheelie while overtaking on a Coast road known for blind spots. Brandt Colman Rumble, 27, was on Tuesday fined $1000 for riding his motorbike dangerously at Doonan on November 11. Noosa Magistrates Court heard police spotted Rumble tailgating a car in front of him while riding his KTM motorbike on Eumundi-Noosa Rd. Police prosecutor Phillip Stephens said officers travelling behind Rumble grew concerned when the rider pulled to the right of the car in front of him. The rider was then seen to execute a wheel stand and commence overtaking the vehicle in front at high speed on the rear wheel only, Sergeant Stephens said.
He let himself into the living area through an unlocked glass door. The defendant walked through the victim s house, past the master bedroom where the adult female slept, past the second bedroom, the bathroom and along the length of an internal corridor, Sgt Stephens said. Godsall then entered the third bedroom where the 13-year-old girl was in bed. The victim child was startled and verbally challenged the defendant, Sgt Stephens said. Godsall fled the home via the living room door before the girl woke her mother who confronted him and called police. Godsall later told police he was very drunk at the time and wanted to look at the victim s Christmas tree in the living room.
