A fire that broke out at a West Auckland supermarket is being treated as arson - and it is thought it may have been part of a global social media craze.
A staff member at the Countdown Henderson spoke to the Herald about online videos where packets of chips are set alight.
The challenge has appeared on popular social media app TikTok and which has resulted in at least one large supermarket fire in the US already.

The West Auckland supermarket that was the centre of a huge fire service response last night after its chip aisle went up in flames could remain closed for up to a week.
The supermarket says it can t reopen the building until it s safe for staff and customers - which they are hoping is in the next five to seven 7 days.

The spiteful ex-husband of an Auckland woman has been sent to jail after stabbing her to death in a daytime attack.
On Friday, Manchao Li was sentenced after murdering Massey librarian Zhimin Yang, who was known as Jennifer.
After years nursing resentments and racking up personal and financial failures, Li stalked and killed his ex-wife as she waited for a bus in West Auckland in July 2019.
