Serbian sambo stars host masterclass ahead of National Championships Saturday, 13 March 2021
Two of Serbia s top sambists, Ivana Jandrić and Vladimir Gajić, have held a class for approximately 50 athletes, coaches and referees in Novi Sad to share their knowledge of the sport.
The class taught new members of the national team some basic rules and also featured training exercises.
European Games champion and two-time world medallist Jandrić recalled moments where she faced challenges in major competitions when addressing the attendees. Every year the number of sambists on our national competitions is growing and they are all young sportsmen which make me pretty happy, said Jandrić.
European Sambo Championships to be held in Cyprus in May Friday, 5 March 2021
The European Sambo Championships, along with the European Youth and Junior Sambo Championships, are set to be held in May in Cyprus.
Scheduled to take place from May 13 to 16 in the city of Limassol, the Executive Committee of the European Sambo Federation has decided to bring the age group Championships together with the senior competition.
Initially, the European Youth and Junior Championships were scheduled to take place from April 16 to 18 in Cyprus, while the European Championships were set to take place from May 21 to 23 in Italy.
COVID-19 protocols will be in place, with all event participants required to take a polymerase chain reaction test within 72 hours of arriving in Cyprus.
Rudniev and Shevchenko crowned best Ukrainian sambists of 2020 Tuesday, 12 January 2021
Combat sambo under-74-kilogram world champion Vladislav Rudniev and women s under-64kg world champion Anastasia Shevchenko have been named Ukraine s top sambists for 2020.
The National Ukrainian Sambo Federation named the two gold medallists from the 2020 World Sambo Championships in Novi Sad in Serbia as its best athletes of the year.
Shevchenko and Rudniev first in the organisation s ratings, tied with a total of 1680 points.
In the women s under-64kg, Shevchenko defeated Belarus Vera Harelikava in the final; Rudniev won his gold medal after victory over Daiyrbek Karyiaev of Kyrgyzstan.
Three-time world champion Rudniev previously stated that he believed Russia s reign as a dominant force in the sport was diminishing.
