There will be no signs marking the building that houses the new business called Mad Burger Co. in Syracuse. If you knock on the door, even during business hours, no one is likely to answer. The door will probably be locked.
Mad Burger, which opens Friday, is a place where you can get specialty hamburgers, a hot chicken sandwich and a few other items. But it’s not your ordinary restaurant. It’s not even an ordinary takeout place.

Warblers arrive in the spring garbed in colorful clothing, but they head back south in the fall dressed in drab colors. There’s got to be a message there, but those of us who don’t follow the birds south are too busy getting ready for winter to recognize it.
As a business reporter, I write about small businesses opening and closing, manufacturing, food and drink, labor issues and economic data. I particularly love writing about the impact of state and federal policy on local businesses. I also do some education reporting, covering colleges in southeastern Connecticut and regional K-12 issues.

Here at WBKR, we understand the impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on local restaurants. Over the last twelve months, they have been closed at times. They ve had (and still have) their inside dining capacities restricted and so many workers in that industry have had a difficult time navigating the crisis financially. So, as we thaw from winter and look forward to spring (with vaccines and hope for a return to normal on the horizon), we want to celebrate a restaurant rebirth. So, we re encouraging YOU to #EatLocal.
