Chula Vista Fire Chief Harry Muns and Spring Valley resident Christopher M. Pierce were appointed Thursday to the San Miguel Consolidated Fire Protection District governing board.
Both were chosen unanimously in 5-0 votes at a special meeting and will serve through November 2022.
Seven candidates had been seeking the seats since two of the board members moved out of the area in June.
The remaining members of the board decided last month to appoint directors rather than spend money on a special election.

The San Miguel Fire district board oversees a nearly $23 million annual budget and its revenue comes primarily from property taxes.

Grandma was killed, boy escaped from the fire

San Diego-Sheriff’s officials said on Sunday that a woman was found dead after a fire broke out in a mobile home park in San Diego, but her grandson was able to escape.
According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, a fire was reported on a trailer at Sweetwater Lodge near Jamacha Avenue in Spring Valley before 10pm on Saturday night.
When the firefighters arrived, the mobile home had been engulfed by flames. After hearing that someone was still trapped inside, they started search and rescue work while fighting the flames, San Miguel Fire Brigade. Chief Roddy Blunt said.
