Blake Barrett played his 100th game for Coastal Rugby earlier this year. His father Kevin was instrumental in setting up the club 25 years ago, a milestone it will celebrate this weekend.
A secret meeting down a rural dead-end road more than 25 years ago, proved vital for rugby around the coast. Farm life changed in the mid-1990s and the Okato, Rahotu and Opunake rugby clubs were struggling to find players. What’s worse, those available were thinking about joining old foes. Described as clandestine, the meeting was held at Kevin Barrett’s house and players committed to join forces to form the Coastal Rugby Club in 1995.
Bromsgrove Carnival in 2019. BROMSGROVE Carnival has been cancelled for another year due to uncertainty of Covid restrictions. The popular event, which is held at Sanders Park was due to go ahead in July but has been cancelled for the second year in a row because of emerging data and the uncertainty on restrictions. Timberhonger 10k, the road race that accompanies the carnival, and the children s fun run has also been cancelled. A spokesperson from Bromsgrove Carnival said: It is with regret that Bromsgrove Carnival Committee, along with our partners at Timberhonger 10k have decided to postpone this year s events due to uncertainty with the relaxation of coronavirus restrictions in the coming months.

U.S. Rep. Hal Rogers and Gov. Andy Beshear will join the leaders of Shaping Our Appalachian Region (SOAR) for a special announcement regarding the 2021 SOAR Summit on Thursday, June 3rd at 1:00 p.m. in Corbin. The City of Corbin and SOAR will be hosting a block party in downtown Corbin at Sanders Park with food trucks and entertainment. The event is free and open to the public.

Half of people in Bromsgrove are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 NHS data shows half of people in Bromsgrove have received two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine. By May 23 40,294 people had received both jabs, with 49% of those aged 16 and over. Across Bromsgrove, 78% of those aged 16 and over have received their first jab.
