March has once again served as an annual opportunity to celebrate the contributions of women to American culture and history.
In recognition of the tireless effort of women in the Central Texas hospitality industry, below is a list of local restaurants owned and/or operated primarily by women.
Of course, ownership, partnerships and management teams are complicated, and the list doesn’t cover a host of husband-and-wife teams (Asia Market Eatery, Asti, Baguette et Chocolate, Dee Dee, Franklin Barbecue, Gourmands, Justine’s, Kome, Lenoir, Pieous, Poke-Poke, P. Terry s and Vince Young Steakhouse), family-owned restaurants (El Meson, Tamale House East) and the many trailers (Kreyol Korner, Tacos Guerrero, La Flor, Talad Thai and Lao Street Food) run by women. Biden called the decision Neanderthal, while local city council members, Travis County Judge Andy Brown, and Mayor Steve Adler have urged Austinites to continue to wear masks until more of the population can be va

T Loc’s Sonoran Hot Dog, ah, can we ever properly chart all the generous outpourings of aid?
Note: Most places have announced reopening to the public – but check their social media for updates and specific offerings.
And our local farmers – working their asses off to try to save what could be saved from the onslaught of Winter Storm Uri, the state’s big sky itself suddenly against them, bringing what they could to Texas Farmers Markets. The first weekend out, many farmers and vendors reported selling out due to high turnout, but their troubles will intensify as many have lost almost all their crops except for greenhouse seedlings.
