The two waves of Covid-19 which left the City gasping for breath have prompted the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (
BBMP) to augment the much-ignored health infrastructure. In what could be termed as a first-of-its-kind approach, the civic body has chalked out a Rs 601 crore plan to address gaps in the City’s healthcare system across all three levels – primary, secondary and tertiary. Officials now await the
State government’s assistance to strengthen healthcare facilities.
Key proposals submitted to the government include 57 primary healthcare centres (PHCs), 11 secondary centres with 50 to 100 beds and three tertiary centres like

Three days after the
Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike presented its budget in 2018, and as promised, corporators from 198 wards were given an iPad Air 2 each. The Palike spent Rs 88 lakh on these state-of-the-art devices, despite many corporators saying, that they didn’t know how to use them.

Indira Canteens find it hard to continue operations as the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) delay releasing funds. It is especially harder now, than ever before, as these canteens need to supply breakfast, lunch and dinner free of cost to the needy during the lockdown.
On an average, one lakh people eat their breakfast, lunch and dinner at Indira Canteens at different locations in the city. As the prices of essential commodities take a northward turn, the 10-month-delay in releasing funds is hampering the operations at Indira Canteens.
