Ease of doing business gets a major boost in the rail sector as Indian Railways has framed new guidelines for online payment system for freight charges by doing away with the existing system which was a little cumbersome.
The online payment system to be implemented from June will be provided through Freight Business Development (FBD) portal via SBI s payment gateway.
NEW DELHI: From June 1, the railways will go for 100% online payment for all services related to freight movement.
The online payment system will be provided through Freight Business Development (FBD) portal via SBI’s payment gateway and the online payment will be available through all modes such as net banking, RTGS, NEFT, credit card, debit card and UPI through the dashboard of the customer.
Till now, the Indian Railways has been issuing electronic railway receipts and customers were making epayment. Officials said the present model was such that customers needed to keep some guarantee with thebank and make online payments, which was a little cumbersome. The online payment system will be available 24x7.

New Delhi [India], April 30 (ANI): The Ministry of Railways on Friday issued guidelines for online payment system for freight charges.
According to a press release, the online payment system will be provided through Freight Business Development (FBD) portal via SBI s payment gateway. It will provide the facility for collection of freight and all kinds of ancillary charges e.g. premium charge (in case of premium indent), wagon registration fee, demurrage, wharfage, siding charge, shunting charge, rebooking charge, diversion charge.
These guidelines will be implemented from June 1.

Ministry of Railways on Friday issued guidelines for online payment of freight charges by all users. This Online Payment System will be provided through Freight Business Development (FBD) portal via SBI’s payment gateway.
These guidelines will be implemented from June 1, said a release. As of now, large freight users of railways can make online payment through a tri-apartite agreement – between Railways, bank and customer.
Under the new system, all freight users can directly make payment from banks to Railways without the tri-apartite agreement, among others, explained an official. Also, goods clerk can be enabled to work from home in case of any pandemic surge.
