PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) National Skilled Nursing Care week begins on Mother’s Day, and lasts for seven days. This years theme is “Together Through the Seasons. The theme focuses on overcoming struggles faced during the pandemic.
Summerhill Senior Living Community is celebrating by starting the week with a special ceremony for residents and staff. Both Senator Larry Walker and Representative Shaw Blackmon attended Monday’s event and read a proclamation. The state leaders say this week is a time to highlight the care nurses have given residents during the pandemic.
“The residents are excited to be able to interact like they’re used to doing,” said Summerhill Administrator Philip Garner.

HOUSTON COUNTY, Ga. As hospitals across Central Georgia begin to receive COVID-19 vaccines, nursing homes and assisted living facilities are still waiting.
Two Central Georgians who have a loved one in a nursing home say they re hoping the vaccine is a step towards getting families back together inside the doors.
Both Nannette Coleman and Kimberly Sexton say this pandemic has been extremely difficult for their families.
Coleman has an 83-year-old grandmother who lives at Summer Hill Senior Community in Perry. She says her family misses the regular visitation, but the home has allowed some window and plastic tent visits.
