May 13, 2021 - 11:00 AM There were 134 fewer cases of COVID-19 recorded in the Interior Health region last week versus the week before. From May 2 to 8, the region recorded 323 new cases, the lowest weekly tally since mid-March, based on information posted on the B.C. Centre for Disease Control website. Kamloops Local Health Area led the way, dropping to 33 new cases from 57. Penticton cases fell to 15 from 34 while the Central Okanagan recorded 162 cases last week, down only slightly from the 174 the week before. Vernon also saw only a small decline to 22 from 25. The South Okanagan dropped to three cases from 14.

What happened to Mimi’s Café?
There’s nothing left of Mimi’s Café at the corner of Pacific Avenue and Robinhood Drive after the longtime restaurant was demolished. According to the city s online permit database, two new commercial buildings are planned to take its place in the Stonecreek Village shopping center: One is Aspen Dental. Mimi s closed without notice in 2018, leaving customers confused and employees saddened, bewildered and wondering where they can find a new job.
1. Why should people get vaccinated?
My belief is that if we would like to return to some level of normal, reverse the economic and psychological impact, then the community needs to achieve herd immunity. The quickest way to achieve that is by getting nearly everyone vaccinated.
2. Why do you think people are not getting vaccinated? Have community members said they don’t want to get vaccinated? And for what reasons?
I do ask my patients if they have received the vaccine yet and most have been vaccinated. I don’t ask “why they haven’t?” but they often volunteer their thoughts. Of the patients that haven’t, they prefer to wait until it receives full approval from the FDA (Food and Drug Administration). Some have chosen to wait because of concerns on the side effects that they have heard from friends and a few are based on social media (some valid and others still believe it is a hoax).
