In Robesonia, food, fun and Santa

Robesonia was the center of a Christmas party Saturday in western Berks County out on Route 422.  From 2 to 4 p.m. there was a food giveaway with Santa and Mrs. Claus and their elves supervising and handing out candy to all the children in the Community Cares Christmas. This event was for everyone, said co-organizer Kevin Snyder. Those who needed a meal, those who appreciate a free meal, those that wanted to see Santa and those that wanted to help us continue to show that our community cares. We gave out over 430 hams, 1,700 cans of vegetables, 700 boxes of stuffing, 300 pounds of peanut butter cups, 1,000 candy canes and 800 special treats from Santa.

Pandemic rages: Christmas continues

An evening view as the Dec. 3 Winterlites parade passed by. Pictured is James Alexander with a trucking entry. Photos by Sherri Solomko The Unity Winterlites Parade winner in the vehicle category, shown on the day before parade, was K.D. Welding, featuring Kelly and Tammie McLellan. Wiggles and Whiskers in Unity held a festive photo shoot for pets in November, with another session upcoming in December. Miss Tucker poses here with Mrs. Claus (otherwise known as Sandra Porsnuk). Photo submitted. The community, in spite of the ongoing pandemic, is trying to experience some sense of normal this Christmas. Please adhere to government and Saskatchewan Health Authority pandemic protocols so we aren’t busting the charts continuously, or again, on case numbers. Do what you can, when you can and where you can.

Winterlights parade, decorating contest brighten Xmas season

Thank you to everyone who made contributions either at the “Fill the Truck” initiative at Unity Motor Products or other collection depots around town. These efforts will go a long way to help make this Christmas a littler merrier for those who need a hand up this year. We also must thank the Secret Santa committee and food bank volunteers, as their efforts are appreciated this time of year. The Community Cares Christmas mail campaign has been enthusiastically received. Thank you to everyone who took time to drop off ornaments, mail, treats and other items, as well as to those who sent letters and cards in the mail. I have heard back from several seniors’ centres asking to pass along thanks to those who chose to act on this request and to relate how many smiles this campaign has evoked.
