SHARE ON: COVID-19 cases by LHA (Photo from the BCCDC) The amount of COVID-19 cases identified in the Prince George Local Health area has gone up after flatlining for three weeks straight. From May 16th to 22nd, 40 people were diagnosed with a virus, 14 more than the week prior. The BCCDC reports an average of 5.1 to 10.0 cases is being identified daily per every 100,000 people in the area. Meanwhile, the Nechako and Quesnel Health areas saw 8 and 7 cases respectively, a number that shot up for Nechako but dipped down for Quesnel. Cases identified in the Peace River North shot up pretty substantially during this time frame as 58 people were diagnosed, up from the previous mark of 37.

Weekly BCCDC Covid-19 data

The BCCDC has released their Covid-19 case data for the week of May 16 to May 22. Cases in the Northwest remain low over this period. Prince Rupert had no new cases over this period and Terrace had two new cases. Kitimat also had no cases while Smithers recorded 10. Along the Northeast part of the province Peace River North had 58 cases and Fort Nelson recorded nine. Daily case numbers over the past week across the province have seen a decline. Surrey remains the hotspot for B.C. recording 721 Covid-19 cases during this period. B.C. vaccine campaign continues, according to the Provincial Government almost 3 million doses of the vaccine have been administered.

Vancouver and Northern B C stand out in weekly COVID-19 update

  VANCOUVER During a reporting period that saw overall infections continue to drop in British Columbia, two areas in the City of Vancouver and the Peace River area stand out for their COVID-19 infection rates and vaccinations. The weekly data summary from the B.C. Centre for Disease Control, current as of May 18, shows the Northeast False Creek area of Vancouver being the only neighbourhood in Metro Vancouver where cases increased, while the UBC area has the lowest vaccination rates for the region with only 37 per cent of adults inoculated against COVID. Richmond City Centre had the next-lowest vaccination rates in the Lower Mainland at just 49 per cent of adults.
