Mideast women playing bigger role in tourism
RIYADH, January 14, 2021 Fewer than one in 10 tourism workers in the Middle East are women though this proportion is steadily increasing, said a report released by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the Ministry of Tourism of Saudi Arabia. The report titled “The Regional Report on Women in Tourism in the Middle East” highlights the progress that has been made, as well as opportunities to further advance gender equality in the sector. The new publication, which complements the Global Report on Women in Tourism, Second Edition, was compiled within the framework of the Saudi Arabia G20 2020 Presidency. It highlights the positive steps that have been taken at a policy level in recent years while demonstrating the work still needed to achieve UN Sustainable Development Goal 5 in the Middle East, particularly when compared with other world regions.
UAE, Uzbekistan hold ‘Leading Women’s Forum’
ABU DHABI, 23rd December, 2020 (WAM) The governments of the UAE and Uzbekistan held the Leading Women’s Forum’ in Uzbekistan, to exchange expertise and inspiring success stories in the area of women’s empowerment in both countries while focussing on the UAE’s pioneering experience in promoting the role of women in achieving sustainable development.
The virtual forum, which was held remotely as part of the strategic partnership in government modernisation between the two countries, was attended by Emirati and Uzbek female leaders and around 2,000 participants from public, private and civil society organisations in Uzbekistan.
