The man was allotted an ICU bed from the BBMP, but still he was allegedly kept in a general bed in Artyem Hospital in RR Nagar due to which his health started to deteriorate, they said. The hospital, however, has denied these allegations and insisted that the man was being treated in the ICU.

The hospital allegedly took Rs. 2.9 lakh as an advance to start the treatment, allotting the patient a private bed and after confirmation from SAST, it refused to change the admission to under BBMP quota. And the allegation is that after the patient’s death, they refused to hand over the body and demanded another Rs. 3 lakh. The deceased, Rahim (name changed), 55, who was in home isolation started experiencing breathlessness so the family began looking for hospitals on May 8. His son Khalim said his father’s saturation had dropped to 70 by evening when they reached Sapthagiri Hospital. “They refused to treat him even in an emergency and asked us to pay Rs. 3 lakh as advance to start the treatment. COVID-19 bed allotment scam: Hospital marketing executive arrested

Police say he took money from patients to provide beds The Central Crime Branch (CCB) police on Wednesday arrested a marketing executive of Sapthagiri Hospital for his alleged involvement in the war room bed allotment scam. According to the police, the accused, Antony, 26, reportedly took money from patients to provide beds. “So far, we have identified six people from whom he took money,” said a senior police officer. The police have taken the accused into custody. “We suspect that he has been working with other accused and are investigating further,” said a CCB official. On May 9, the police had arrested three employees and an Arogya Mitra from two private hospitals in connection with the case. So far, eight persons have been arrested in connection with the scam.
