Sisters is celebrating the 75th anniversary of the incorporation of the City of Sisters with a new historical mural on the South Fir Street side of the Habitat
Hayden Homes is proud to recognize Daniel Schmidt of Sisters High School as the recipient of the 2020 Hayden Homes $2,500 Art Scholarship. A committee comprised of Hayden Homes team members and the Sisters Arts Association selected Daniel's artwork as the winning concept. His artwork showcases a beautiful wood sculpture that depicts motions of nature and the patterns of a snow drift. "I was backcountry skiing when the idea suddenly struck me," said Daniel Schmidt, artist and scholarship winner. "I had just poked into an untouched meadow of beauteous wind drifts with other worldly visual energy. I think this is very applicable to northwest landscape as it is one of the elements that makes the northwest distinctly the northwest." Daniel's artwork is on display at the Hayden Homes McKenzie Meadows Village model home through May of this year. If community members are interested in seeing Daniel's artwork, please call 541-904-0060 for an appointment. "
Arts association invites community to join meeting
By Helen Schmidling Tuesday, January 19, 2021 10:28 AM Remember the days when we strolled the citywide Fourth Friday Art Walks from gallery to gallery, our eyes open to art that moved conversations between artists and friends? Until we can do that again, the Sisters Arts Association (SAA) is finding ways to keep our community connected. See for yourself at their annual members’ meeting on Tuesday, January 26.
To preregister to join the meeting, visit www.sistersartsassociation.org/annual-meeting prior to 10 a.m. on Sunday, January 24. You will receive an invitation for the Zoom meeting via email.
Vision team welcomed new members
By Janel Ruehl and Emme Shupe Tuesday, December 22, 2020 12:35 PM Since July 2019, the Vision Implementation Team (VIT) has been meeting regularly to guide progress on the Sisters Country Vision. The VIT is thrilled to welcome three new community members to the team: Hattie Tehan, Dennis Schimidling, and Bob Bryant.
Each brings a different background, skill set, and passion to the Vision project. The VIT is also excited to announce the funding of their first Community Partner Grant, awarded to AFSC (Age Friendly Sisters Country) to support volunteer capacity for their Tollgate Village and STARS Transportation projects. Funding is still available, and the application is simple! Visit www.sistersvision.org to learn more and apply.
