Article content City of Leduc administration is investigating the allowance of alcohol consumption in public parks following a resident request. Mayor Bob Young brought the issue forward at the May 10 regular meeting. He explained that a resident had asked him to look into the possibility. City of Edmonton council recently approved a pilot project that will allow for public consumption of alcohol at designated picnic sites in some city parks. The issue came up for discussion at Monday night s city council meeting.  Mayor Bob Young suggested the bylaw be rescinded.  He pointed out the bylaw is redundant at the moment because all municipalities are governed by restrictions imposed by the province before Christmas. I think it s a good idea that we are following provincial guidelines, said Councillor Glen Finstad.  As the mayor mentioned, it would be redundant for Leduc to have one that may or may not conflict with what the province has going.

LRHF pursuing affordable housing funding

Article content The City of Leduc is working with the Leduc Regional Housing Foundation to pursue federal funding through the Canada Mortgage and Housing Foundation that would see the completion of the second phase of Gaetz Landing. Council discussed how to city could facilitate the grant process at a special council meeting on Dec. 14.
