(Shutterstock) DELRAN, NJ A doctor who has medical practices in Delran and Trenton has reached a $106,255 settlement to resolve charges of health care fraud, alleging billing Medicaid and Medicare for in-person services during periods when he was traveling out of state, Acting U.S. Attorney Rachael A. Honig announced. Between Jan. 1, 2016, and March 31, 2020, Vedat Obuz and his medical practice, Lotus Clinics P.C./Lotus Family Medicine, are accused of claiming he performed certain procedures when it was actually nurse practitioners who performed those services, according to the settlement agreement.

Settlement includes no admission of liability in billing dispute

NEWARK - A South Jersey doctor and his medical practice have agreed to pay $106,000 to settle a dispute over bills submitted for Medicaid and Medicare patients. The payments will resolve a whistleblower suit brought against Dr. Vedat Obuz and his practices, Lotus Family Medicine of Delran and Lotus Clinics of Trenton, said the U.S. Attorney s Office for New Jersey. The settlement contains no admission of liability or wrongdoing, and is not to be construed as that,” the doctor s attorney, Mohamed Nabulsi of Roseland, said Tuesday. “The decision to settle was a practical one intended to close a chapter of his life that devastated his life wrongfully,” the Essex County attorney said. “We believe our client has done nothing improper.”
