Fire fighters hosed down grass fires and assisted in a rescue at a house fire. Written By: Staff reports | Wadena Fire Department fielded the following seven calls for service in the month of April. April 2 Responded to Deer Creek Township to a report of a large wildland fire. They provided mutual aid for Deer Creek Fire Department. Roughly 300 acres burnt and no structures or injuries were reported. Provided assistance along with DNR Fire and Henning Fire Department. April 6 Responded to a grass fire on the southside of Wadena s city limits with a camper on fire. Crews extinguished the grass fire and camper, which was fully engulfed. Camper was a total loss. Fire was caused from garbage being burnt that sparked nearby grass on fire.

$19,400 awarded regionally through LREC Operation Round Up

The camp was one of 14 recipients of the Operation Round Up program in April 2021. (Submitted photo) The Lake Region Electric Cooperative Operation Round Up Board of Trustees disbursed $19,400 to 14 local organizations and programs across the LREC service area in April. LREC also volunteered their time by assisting Inspiration Point, one of the recipients, with the installation of their new zip line, according to an LREC news release. LREC erected two utility poles for the camp and assisted in the initial zip line creation process. Crew members were happy to help with the project and are eager to come back and try out the zip line when it’s completed.

An Otter Tail County farm is getting thousands of dollars of support from the Henning community and beyond after a barn went up in flames on Christmas Eve, killing hundreds of animals and destroying equipment. Cornerstone Farm owner Brittany Springer said the community has donated almost $4,500 for repairs and new equipment after 95% of the equipment was lost in the fire.
