Gov. Edwards, Parish President Dove Issue Emergency Declarations Due to Ongoing Weather Threat April 15, 2021 Gov. John Bel Edwards has issued a state of emergency due to the ongoing severe weather impacting Louisiana this week. According to the National Weather Service, there is the potential for flash flooding through Friday across much of south Louisiana. Wind gusts in excess of 60 mph are possible along with the potential for large hail. Much of the state has already dealt with dangerous weather lines for the past several days. A state of emergency is an administrative step that authorizes the use of state resources to aid in storm response efforts. Those efforts will be coordinated through the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP). Initial requests have been received from parishes for items such as tarps and water pumps. Terrebonne declares state of emergency due to recent rain, flooding The Courier and Daily Comet Terrebonne Parish President Gordon Dove has declared a state of emergency in the parish due to flooding caused by the recent persistent, heavy rain in the area. In his declaration issued Thursday, Dove said the anticipated effect of the potential flooding, rainfall and extreme winds upon all of Terrebonne Parish s people and property will require immediate action by Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government to offset the potentially irreparable damages and facilitate quick drainage in areas where rain water flow is impeded. The order gives work crews the authority to initiate all emergency operations plans and commence action to prepare for any potential impact from flooding, including, but not limited to, actions necessary to clear bayous, canals, and ditches from debris, excavating where necessary, to drain excess water.
