National gas shortages reach Charlottesville

National gas shortages reach Charlottesville National gas shortages reach Charlottesville By Dominga Murray and Max Marcilla | May 11, 2021 at 7:22 PM EDT - Updated May 11 at 11:05 PM CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - The Colonial Pipeline ransomware attack is now impacting gas stations in central Virginia. Drivers in Charlottesville and the surrounding areas are traveling from station to station hoping to find gas, with prices as high as $3.85 per gallon. All of this is being driven by the Colonial Pipeline shutdown, the system that delivers 45% of the gas to the East Coast is the victim of the ransomware. While this is an inconvenience to consumers, suppliers are suffering as well.

Gas lines harken back to the '70s with spotty gasoline supply

Photo: WINA CHARLOTTESVILLE (WINA) – Gasoline retailers are spotty on supplies as the shortage from the Colonial Pipeline cyberattack continues. Tiger Fuel President Gordon Sutton told Charlottesville Right Now Tuesday afternoon this is a situation that has not happened in the company’s 39-year history. He said they were not expecting to get deliveries to any of their area stations until Friday, though a tanker truck pulled up to the Market at Preston shortly before 1 Wednesday afternoon to cheers from loyal customers on the scene. Gas lines are back in Charlottesville for the first time since the ’70s as stations that get fuel become very popular. Many stations have lines out to the main roads, and some of those have employees directing traffic around their parking lots to the pumps. An hour after the truck made its delivery to Preston, a line of vehicles was backed onto Harris Street with people waiting their turn.
