14 arrested in Etah, 3 in Azamgarh under UP s anti-conversion law

Lucknow, Dec 23 (IANS): The Uttar Pradesh police is working strictly under the newly formulated anti-conversion law. They have arrested over a dozen for converting a woman to Islam and three for trying to convince people to accept Christianity.
In Etah, the police arrested eight people on the charge of forcible conversion of a 21-year-old girl and then getting her married.
In Azamgarh, three other people were arrested under the new state law.
The case under the new anti-conversion law was filed on Thursday in Jalesar in Etah on the basis of a complaint filed by the woman s father, a businessman.

VARANASI: Three men were arrested on Monday in Azamgarh, UP, for allegedly trying to convert a family to Christianity. Villagers caught the trio when they were trying to flee and handed them over to police.
Azamgarh SP Sudhir Kumar Singh told TOI on Tuesday, “Didarganj police arrested three men, namely Balchand Jaiswar of Jaunpur, Gopal Prajapati of Varanasi and Niraj Kumar of Azamgarh, after they had a brawl with the complainant Ashok Kumar Yadav who refused their offer to embrace Christianity.”
In his complaint, Ashok Kumar Yadav of Kaitholi village under Didarganj police station alleged that the three men had arrived at the residence of his neighbour Tribhuvan Yadav and gave him lucrative offers for converting to Christianity.

Lucknow: Ever since the Uttar Pradesh government passed the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Ordinance, 2020, the state police have been acting strictly against the accused. The Uttar Pradesh Police have arrested 17 people under the newly formulated anti-conversion law so far.
In Etah eight people have been arrested for allegedly forcibly converting a 21-year-old girl to Islam and then getting her married. The police took action after the father of the woman filed a case regarding her missing daughter.
