3 Arrested in UP Under Anti-conversion Law for Holding Meet to Convert People into Christianity FOLLOW US ON: Three people have been arrested in Uttar Pradesh s Azamgarh district under the state s new anti-conversion law, police said on Tuesday. Balchandra, Gopal Prajapati and Neeraj Kumar were arrested in Deeh Kauthaul village on Sunday, Station House Officer of Deedargaj Sanay Kumar Singh said. The three men came to the village and allegedly organised a meeting at Tribhuvan Yadav s home to convert people to Christianity, the police officer said. A villager, Ashok Yadav, informed the police, following which the arrests were made under the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Ordinance, 2020, he said.

Villagers caught the trio when they were trying to flee and police were called. Azamgarh SP Sudhir Kumar Singh told TOI on Tuesday, “Didarganj police arrested three men, namely Balchand Jaiswar of Jaunpur, Gopal Prajapati of Varanasi and Niraj Kumar of Azamgarh, after they had a brawl with the complainant Ashok Kumar Yadav who refused their offer to embrace Christianity. In his complaint, Ashok Kumar Yadav of Kaitholi village under Didarganj police station alleged that Jaiswal, Prajapati and Kumar had arrived at the residence of his neighbour Tribhuvan Yadav and gave him lucrative offers for converting to Christianity.

Three persons have been arrested in Deedarganj area of Azamgarh under Uttar Pradesh’s new anti-conversion law for allegedly trying to convert a family to Christianity. The three, identified as Bal Chand Jaiswal, Gopal Prajapati and Neeraj Kumar, allegedly were holding a prayer at the house of one Tribhuvan Yadav on Sunday when they were arrested. SHO (Deedarganj) Sanjay Kumar Singh said that on Sunday they were conducting prayers when a resident of the area, Ashok Yadav, accused them of trying to convince the others to change their religion.
