GLWA CEO says staff thought disabled pump station could handle rain

The Great Lakes Water Authority board on Wednesday unanimously accepted CEO Sue McCormick s resignation before reviewing a new timeline of the electrical problems hampering the authority during last month s massive rainfall and subsequent flooding.  McCormick said her employees believed that the one of the system s pumping stations known as Freud  which was partially operational despite an electrical outage  could still handle the anticipated storm because rainfall predications were between 1.5 to 3 inches.  But those predictions were wrong.  In some areas , more than 7 inches fell the night of June 25 and into June 26, overwhelming the GLWA system and flooding residents homes , primarily in Detroit, Dearborn and the Grosse Pointes.
