Napa Valley Visual and Performing Arts Students of the Month

Arts Council Napa Valley has recognized 17 students for excellence in the arts for April and May, the final two months of the Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) Recognition Program. All 60 students honored with the ACNV VAPA Student of the Month award during the 2020/21 school year are now being considered for scholarships to be announced the first week of June. The scholarship program is  supported by The Festival Napa Valley, Napa Valley Community Foundation, the SATO Family Foundation and individual donors. April/May recipients include nine high schools and eight middle/elementary Visual and Performing arts students from 11 different schools.  ACNV Executive Director Chris DeNatale said, We are so proud of these students who persevere inspiring their teachers and their peers.

2 iconic comedies to stream this week It’s the first week of May, and it’s time for the celebs to be interrogated.  Ziwe, the new Showtime series from comedian (and former Daily Dot regular)  Ziwe Fumudoh, debuts on May 9 and according to the trailer she will be grilling Fran Lebowitz. The show grew out of her Instagram Live interview series  Baited, in which she famously questioned Caroline Calloway and Rose McGowan on race and privilege. (A standard question was:  How many Black friends do you have?) On Thursday, a woman shared a heartwarming story on Twitter about a group of big-hearted strangers who raised enough to cover her uncle s months of unpaid rent. Angeline Rodriguez wrote that her uncle was laid off in March from a serving job she said he held for 20 years. Once all the donations poured in, she tweeted out that he had just finished a 10-hour shift waiting tables at a new job when she broke the good news to him.
