BREXIT has opened up a huge opportunity for UK fishermen to take part in an old British pastime and become a global leader in marine conservation, experts have said.
Overview of national and local angling byelaws
The byelaws outlined in this guide are legally enforceable rules for freshwater fishing with a rod and line across England. National fisheries byelaws apply to all waters in England. They also apply to the Border Esk and those tributaries that are in Scotland, but exclude the River Tweed and its tributaries.
England is divided into 6 byelaw areas for angling purposes. National byelaws apply to all of these areas. Each byelaw area has its own set of supplementary byelaws.
Within these byelaw areas, some byelaws apply to the whole area, whereas others apply to one specific water or location.

A Rochdale social club is aiming to tackle mental health concerns with a gentle spot of fishing.
Tackling Minds aims to promote fishing to people from every walk of life; from mental health conditions and recovery from addiction, to social issues, homelessness and loneliness.

Founder Dave Lyons, 37, began Tackling Minds after going through recovery – and says the sport saved his life.
He explained: “Angling has helped me get my life back on track. If you speak to any of my friends, they’ll tell you that I’d be the least person you’d expect to suffer with mental illness.
