Podcast: Jets Offseason Talk With Robby Sabo

On today’s podcast I am joined by Robby Sabo who does a great job covering the Jets as a credentialed beat writer at jetsxfactor.com. Robby writes there with a great team that includes some.

Shout out to Mr. Wells for holding down the fort over the weekend as usual. We’re less than four months away from the start of the NFL season, and all eyes are on the Jets rookie class and GM Joe Douglas. This most recent class is going to be a main foundation for what the team has going forward with Zach Wilson at quarterback; and hopefully JD was able to obtain quality depth/possible starters in the later rounds of the draft. One big issue the Jets have had for a while was lack of depth, and perhaps that will start to change going forward. The team’s ‘double dipped’ multiple times at multiple positions both in the draft and free agency, so we’ll soon know if those moves panned out. With that, here are your links to the team to start your morning.

I hope you’re all having a great start to the day! Rookie RB Michael Carter expressed that he believes Zach Wilson should have been the first overall selection in the NFL Draft in an interview in a SiriusXM NFL Radio interview. Despite the initial statement sounding ‘homerish’, Carter does have a point. PFF gave Zach Wilson the highest passing grade to a collegiate quarterback ever in 2020, and Wilson finished in the top five in nearly every major passing category that same year. Sure, his prior seasons weren’t anything to marvel over, but growth is a very important development in any prospect making his way to the NFL. With a decent cast surrounding him in New York, perhaps Wilson can show that he was deserving to be the 1st overall selection after all. Only time will tell at this point. With that, here are your

Now that the NFL Draft is complete, it’s time to think about what remaining free agents the Jets should target prior to this season. Despite grabbing a lot of depth for the secondary in the draft, that position is still quite barren of playmakers. There’s a chance the Jets may stick with what they have, but a better route may be acquiring veteran players who can still make a difference on the field. Cornerbacks like Steve Nelson and Richard Sherman are still both available on the market, and either could make an impact on this Jets defense; albeit in different ways. Sherman can provide great leadership in a system he’s familiar with, while still playing at a great level. Nelson on the other hand is in his prime and played excellent when with the Pittsburgh Steelers the past tw

Jets GM explains his in-draft trading process

Originally posted on Jets X-Factor  |  By Robby Sabo  |  Last updated 4/23/21 Flexibility. It’s a word frequently utilized in the NFL executive world. It’s also what’s gained when a boatload of extra NFL draft assets are acquired. To that end, call New York Jets general manager Joe Douglas “Mr. Flexible.” Douglas comes to the 2021 NFL Draft party equipped with 10 picks. Extra first- and third-round selections were added in the Jamal Adams trade last summer, while Sam Darnold helped the Jets in the sixth-round department. It’s more than enough for Douglas to keep all options alive. Trade up? Trade down? Stay put? It’s all on the table, as it should be, but just how does the pre- and in-draft trade process work? When is the first hint of communication between two franchises?
