For a model today, social media is like a double-edged sword. On one hand, it has become an essential tool to survive in the industry. On the other hand, it s an exhausting balancing act.
“Personally, I think having a social media presence is really important in this day and age,” states Nia. “I know many people are still sceptical about the merit of ‘influencers’ or ‘Instagram models’, but in order to be noticed and recognised by people whether they are clients, brands or even your audience you need to have traction on social media.”
But gaining that traction isn t as easy as it looks, as the girls describe it to be a full-time job as trends, apps, algorithms as well as its users don t wait for anyone. Additionally, a great reach on social media comes with great responsibility and even greater public scrutiny. After competing in ANTM, Gomez recalls an incident where strangers would DM her social media with threatening messages.
The historic B-listed lodberry on Commercial Street was built around 1817.
The lodberry, which has its own pier, was bought by Ocean Kinetics from Shetland Islands Council in November last year.
For a number of decades it had been used by the Lerwick sea scouts, but its condition was poor.
Managing director John Henderson said: âOver the next six months we will make repairs and alterations to restore this 200-year-old building and preserve it for centuries to come.

âCopeland Lodberry is one of the few Lodberries left on Lerwickâs historic seafront.
âWorking closely with Architect Colin Sim from Malcolmson Architects in Scalloway and Karl Tait from Arch Henderson we shall bring life back into this unique property, with its unique location next to the sea in Lerwick harbour, the building will be used for training staff especially in marine works which is what it has been used for the last 40 plus years.â
