COVID-19 cases rise at CHS

Tuesday evening, Columbus ISD advised parents of “multiple” students being quarantined and testing positive for COVID-19 at the high school campus. One of the results of this possible outbreak was the cancellation of the high school basketball games that were scheduled for yesterday. Parsons senior Barcus caps special season with invite to Kansas Shrine Bowl

KOAM Tanner Barcus will represent Parsons in the 2021 Kansas Shrine Bowl this summer. January 12, 2021 11:31 PM Jacob Lenard PARSONS, Kan. – Parsons wide receiver Tanner Barcus will have a chance to play one more game this summer. “I’m very glad for that, because I really do love football,” Barcus says, “I’m glad I get to play again in high school.” Barcus has been selected to play in the 2021 Kansas Shrine Bowl, after posting 75 catches for more than 1,000 yards with 13 touchdowns in the fall. “It’s about Tanner. It’s also about Tanner’s teammates,” says Parsons head football coach Jeff Schibi, “I think it means a lot to them as well to be able to see their teammate play in this game.”

Posted in: Crockett “David” Leyendecker Jr., 66, of Columbus, stepped through Heaven’s gates on Dec. 30. He was born June 12, 1954, the oldest of three kids to Doris Kallus Leyendecker and Crockett David Leyendecker Sr. in Columbus. Growing up on the family farm/ranch, he spent many hours on a tractor, which inspired his love of hard work, exploring the outdoors, and his animals. He had the benefit of growing up just down the hill from his maternal grandparents who were a big part of his life. David graduated from Columbus High School in 1972. During his first semester of college, David met the love of his life, Connie Muske of La Grange and they were married Aug. 9, 1975. David graduated from Texas A&M in 1976 with a degree in Civil Engineering and left the University as a licensed Professional Engineer, Surveyor and Real Estate Broker. Immediately after graduation, David was hired by Dr. Herman Clay of O’Malley and Clay Engineers in Richmond and became a partner in 1986
