Maoists released a statement on Tuesday that the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) commando who went missing after the April 3 encounter at Tarrem in Chattisgarh’s Sukma was in their custody.

Bodies of 17 security personnel were recovered from the jungles of Bijapur in Chhattisgarh, raising the number of deaths to 22 in the worst ever attack by Maoists in four years that resulted from an ambush by some 400 insurgents who surrounded the jawans from three sides in an area devoid of vegetation and rained on them machinegun fire as well as IEDs for several hours.
CRPF Director General Kuldeep Singh, who was directed by Home Minister Amit Shah to visit the state, acknowledged that his personnel were surprised and ambushed during the attack Saturday that lasted several hours. Other officials in the know of the developments said the forces may have been waylaid by the Naxals.

Five jawans were killed and 20 injured in a fierce encounter between security forces and Naxals in the Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh on Saturday. The forces also gunned down 12 Naxals and recovered an Insas rifle. Two of the deceased jawans were from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) while three were from the District Reserve Guard (DRG).

In yet another encounter in Chhattisgarh, on Saturday at least five security personnel were killed and 12 others injured in an exchange of fire with Naxals at a forest in the state s Bijapur district. Reports claimed that two Naxals, including a woman operative, have been gunned down. As of now, the encounter is still underway.
While three of the martyred jawans belonged to the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), two were from the District Reserve Guard (DRG).
