Monday evening, Morgantown native and former West Virginia long snapper, Kyle Poland, signed as an undrafted free agent with the Houston Texans.
After serving as a backup for the first four years of his career, Poland earned not only the long snapping job for the 2020 season but was also awarded a scholarship. Poland handled the team’s long snapping duties for punts, field goals, and extra points. He was named WVU s Special Teams Player of the Week vs Kansas and at the season s end was named a member of the Special Teams U All-American Second Team.

Poland was West Virginia’s starting long snapper for just one year in 2020. Previously, he was slotted behind former standout Rex Sunahara, who is now trying to latch on with the Miami Dolphins. A member of the Big 12’s All-Academic first team, Poland also earned second-team All-America honors from Special Teams U, an organization that trains long snappers, including several NFL team members.
Poland is regarded as one of the top-rated snappers by more than one service for the upcoming NFL Draft, and he believes that his work at WVU’s Pro Day, along with tutelage from Special Teams U coach Kyle Stetler earlier this spring, have put him in position for a good chance to latch on with an NFL team.
