First large aircraft components for Airbus A220 production arrive in Mobile

Airbus A220 aircraft production is one step closer to reality as the first large aircraft components for the first aircraft have been delivered to the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility. The first of the major component assemblies (MCAs), consisting of the aft fuselage and cockpit, arrived by truck at the Airbus’ U.S. Manufacturing Facility at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley.
“With the arrival of these assemblies, A220 production in Mobile will shortly become a reality,” said Paul Gaskell, President-Airbus U.S. A220, Inc. “The arrival of these MCAs is taking place almost four years to the day from when our first A320 MCAs arrived. It’s amazing to see how much we’ve grown over that time, and an exciting time for Airbus, Mobile and Alabama. Mobile Downtown Airport to get upgraded runways thanks to $9.1 million grant

The Mobile Airport Authority recently announced that Mobile’s Downtown Airport will get more than $9 million for upgrades to its primary runway.
Runway 14/32 will be upgraded thanks to a $9.1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation, according to a press release. The runway will receive resurfacing, upgraded lighting and more.
First graduates of FlightPath9 begin careers at Airbus

The first graduating class of FlightPath9 has completed its course of study and entered the workforce at the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility in Mobile.
FlightPath9 is a workforce training program designed to provide high school seniors the skills and foundation needed for a career in aerospace.
FlightPath9 students learned everything from safety regulations to critical thinking skills, teamwork to time management, and hands-on training with specialized aircraft-manufacturing tools. After completing FlightPath9, students gained additional training in the Airbus Fast Track program, a gateway to an aerospace career without a college degree or prior experience.
JetBlue s 1st A220 Hops to the sky for the 1st time
The first Airbus A220-300 for JetBlue Airways has completed its inaugural test flight from the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley in Mobile, Alabama. The aircraft performed its test sequences and landed safely at 5:22 p.m. The first of 70 A220 aircraft for JetBlue is scheduled to be delivered to the New York-based airline before year end.
The airline’s first A220 aircraft debuted this fall featuring a brand new tailfin livery called “Hops”, designed by JetBlue. The aircraft will be outfitted with a modern single-class cabin configuration and carry passengers on many short trips together as part of a larger journey, commonly referred to as “hopping.”
