Demons Frazer, Wildcat Trio Advance to Districts | KCII Radio

Washington and Columbus Community wrestling teams traveled to Davenport Assumption on Saturday for a Class 2A sectional to start up the postseason and four area grapplers advanced to districts. Demon senior Ayden Frazer was not going to be denied a top two finish, as the 182 pounder finished second. He experienced an 8-5 decision setback loss to start the day, but battled back for a 7-0 win and 13-1 major to claim a runner-up spot. The Wildcats had three individuals advance in Lane Scorpil, Chance Malone, and Ethan Palmer. Scorpil didn’t have to break a sweat at 113 lbs with two byes and a forfeit win in the championship. Malone had a pair of pins at 285 lbs that totaled just 1:19 and Palmer was pinned in 12 seconds at 195 lbs, but created a fall as well in 3:06 to place second. The four wrestlers will compete for a spot at state on Saturday in Mount Pleasant.

Columbus Grapplers Down Indians

The Columbus Community wrestling team got back in the win column Thursday night with a dual victory over Wapello. The Wildcats took care of the Indians with a final tally of 38-33 including winning four of seven contested matches. Lane Scorpil won by a 17-0 technical fall at 113 lbs, Will Hotz took care of business at 170 lbs with a pin in 59 seconds, Kai Malone won by 4-2 decision at 220 lbs, and Chance Malone pinned his opponent in 1:36 at 285 lbs.  Columbus Community wraps up the first half of the season today at Fort Madison for a tournament.
