Aldi Ireland has announced that it plans to open a new store in Cootehill in Co Cavan.
25 new permanent jobs will be created when the proposed new store opens, while an additional 50 jobs will be created during its construction.
Aldi has submitted a planning application for the new 1,315 square metre store to Cavan County Council.
The new store will be powered by 100% green electricity and will have four electric vehicle charging points outside the store.
WITH a matter of weeks remaining until the UK leaves the EU, the Chief Executive of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Alison McCullagh, admits that while they do have plans in place, the lack of clarity – even at this late stage – is concerning. Despite there being agreements reached on Northern Ireland in the past week, other issues such as fishing may leave a deal out of reach between the EU and UK. However, even with the agreements that have been reached, the road ahead is far from clear. She said: “We do have contingency plans but I would genuinely be very concerned because it is very difficult to plan properly for something you don’t fully understand the implications of.
