Fossil Fuel Uncertainty Impacts Local Government Services

Andrew is the director of the Lone Cone Library in Norwood in San Miguel County. A large part of that shortfall, say County officials, is due to a delay in tax payments from Paradox Resources, an oil and gas company that operates in the County. Their 2019 taxes were due by April 2020. The money helps fund local tax districts like the library. But, the company didn t pay when they were supposed to. By late 2020, they owed over a quarter million dollars in 2019 taxes.       The Coronavirus pandemic is one of the reasons Paradox wasn t able to pay the taxes on time, says Todd Brooks, the company s CEO.

The Norwood Chamber of Commerce will see a change in leadership in 2021. After guiding the board as chamber president for some time, Carrie Andrew will leave her office. Andrew has said she will support the chamber in other ways as she focuses on her main role as the director of the Lone Cone Library. “After serving on the chamber executive board for the last six years, I know that the chamber will always hold a special place in my heart,” she told The Norwood Post. “However, I feel like I am leaving the chamber in the hands of an exceptional board. I wish them the best in the coming years. It has been my honor to serve the Norwood community in this way.”

Want to be happy? Do more NOTHING

OPEN by Frankie Bridge (Octopus £18.99, 256pp) Pop star Frankie Bridge was at the height of her career with The Saturdays when she suffered a breakdown aged 23 and was hospitalised in 2012. For years she tried to cover up her mood swings and panic attacks, ashamed of being paralysed by depression when to the outside world she appeared to have everything. Her book is part-memoir, part-self-help manual, tracing the roots of her mental illness to her undiagnosed anxiety during childhood, but focusing on the positive steps anyone can take towards healing. This is no celebrity wallow in gloom Frankie’s coping mechanisms have worked well for her and she earnestly wants to share them.
