Thiruvananthapuram, April 10 : Kerala Assembly Speaker and senior CPI-M leader P. Sreeramakrishnan has been questioned by the Customs department at his official residence in a dollar smuggling case.
Sreeramakrishnan was served a notice to appear before the Customs at its Kochi office on April 8 (Thursday), but he did not go there citing health reasons.
Following this, top Customs officials on Friday reached his official residence here, and questioned him for over four hours.
Sreeramakrishnan was earlier asked to appear before the Customs on March 12. He did not turn up then as well.

Thiruvananthapuram, April 8 : Kerala Assembly Speaker and senior CPI-M leader P. Sreeramakrishnan for the second time will not appear before the Customs Department at their Kochi office on Thursday, after claiming to be unwell .
He was served the notice by the Customs to appear on April 8 for questioning on his alleged role in the dollar smuggling case, as claimed by two gold smuggling case accused.
He has informed the Customs that he is unwell and hence he is unable to present himself before the probe agency.
Sreeramakrishnan was earlier asked to appear before the Customs on March 12, but did not, citing his inability to do so.

Left calls for statewide protest
The Left has called for a statewide protest on Saturday against the statement of the Customs.
The case came to light during the investigation of the Kerala gold smuggling case, which is currently being probed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), ED and the Customs.
