North Central Washington state lawmakers will hold virtual town halls this month to update constituents on the ongoing session of the state Legislature.
On March 23, Reps. Keith Goehner and Mike Steele of the 12
th District will hold an hour-long town hall beginning at 6 p.m.
The next night, March 24, at 7 p.m., 13
th District lawmakers will hold their virtual town hall, with state Sen. Judy Warnick and Reps. Tom Dent and Alex Ybarra.
Constituents who want to participate must pre-register for the Zoom meetings.

Gebbers Farms Fined Pt 1

The Washington Department of Labor and Industries has fined Gebbers Farms $2-million for coronavirus violations after they say ‘Gebbers made it clear they had no intention of following the rules,’ something a Gebbers spokesman says is simply untrue.
12th District Representative Keith Goehner says he doesn’t know why Gebbers, of all employers, is being targeted …
GOEHNER … “I honestly don’t know exactly what the reasoning would be. As a grower, your success is predicated on caring for your workforce, making sure that they’re safe and healthy and I don’t know of any growers that would put, you know, a worker at risk because it directly reflects on you as an individual and on your business as a whole.”

GOEHNER … “Given the size of the operation, the commitments they’ve made to the safety of their workforce, you know, they had safety officers that were monitoring people’s physical health and doing all the things that they were required to do, and yet, to end up with fines being assessed like this, it’s not really a fine that encourages corrective behavior because it’s almost the kind of fine that puts people out of business.”
That two of their workers died from COVID, Goehner says doesn’t mean Gebbers was negligent …
