Virtual reading recovery conference set for May 20

increase font size Share ORONO The Fifth annual Suzanne W. Cole Reading Recovery and Early Literacy Institute will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, May 20. The conference, which will be conducted virtually via Zoom, will be  hosted by the University Training Center for Reading Recovery and Comprehensive Literacy at the University of Maine. In previous years, the institute has attracted more than 100 reading recovery teachers, literacy coaches and education professionals from across Maine. University Training Center Reading Recovery trainer emeritus Lori Taylor will offer the keynote address, “Forever Changed: Lessons from Reading Recovery.” Her presentation will examine research findings and personal experiences that illustrate the influence of Reading Recovery on teachers, and teachers as learners. According to Taylor, many who complete the Reading Recovery training say it is the most rigorous and life-changing learning experience of their careers.

Thursday, May 27, 2021 - 6:00pm to 7:00pm ROCKPORT During the week of May 10, Camden Rockport Elementary School will begin accepting applications for its new nature-based Pre-K Program. A Parent/Guardian Informational Meeting will be held on May 27, from 6 - 7 p.m., via Zoom https://networkmaine.zoom.us/j/83948807951. The Camden Rockport Pre-K program will provide a nature-based learning opportunity for 4-year-old children that reside in Camden or Rockport. This program will provide an authentic connection to the natural world with the majority of a child’s day spent outside in the natural environment, according to the school, in a news release.

Source: Livestream On April 12 the Rockport Select Board heard a presentation by Bill Lane of Gartley & Dorsky Engineers of a proposed 28-space parking lot that would be built above Rockport Harbor, near the Goose River Bridge and the meeting point of Main and Central streets. The board also heard a presentation of the proposed SAD 28 (Camden-Rockport K-8) and Five Town CSD (Camden Hills Regional High School) budgets by Superintendent Maria Libby.
