BBC News By Nick Eardley Across the UK, millions of people will vote on 6 May in local and national elections. But what each of us is voting for will be different based on where we live. BBC political correspondent Alex Forsyth has written about the choices facing voters in England - many of whom will be choosing local councils or metro mayors in a few weeks. In Scotland, voters will be choosing a new Scottish Parliament. It controls significant areas of Scottish life; lockdown decisions, how much income tax people pay and much more. The election is also likely to be dominated by the issue which has been a key dividing line in Scottish politics for the last few years - independence.

Upsetting the apple cart: Stirling Gin faces Pink Lady apple legal threat

Stirling Gin owners Cameron and June McCann are disappointed at having to change the name of their new gin. The Pink Lady of Stirling Castle is said to wander around the kirkyards of the historic site, pining for her lost love. With a pink aura and smelling of sweet rose-blossom, legend goes that she was a young noblewoman who died of a broken heart when her lover was killed defending the castle during the English siege of 1304. However, unfortunately for a small Scottish distillery who recently named a batch of gin after her, she also shares her name with a well-known global apple brand.

Stirling Distillery unveils first whiskies 20th January, 2021 by Owen Bellwood Scotland’s Stirling Distillery has launched a series of single cask whiskies as its inaugural whisky release. The Stirling Distillery has bottled the first two releases in its Sons of Scotland series Founded by husband and wife June and Cameron McCann, the Stirling Distillery currently produces gin at its site in the Scottish city of Stirling. The duo have now bottled their first whiskies under its Sons of Scotland series, two single cask expressions named after Stirlingshire distilleries that were operational during the 18th and early 19th century. Sons of Scotland The Cashly and Sons of Scotland The Arngibbon are both made using sourced whisky that has matured in ex-Bourbon hogsheads for eight years. The Cashly was distilled at a Highland distillery and The Arngibbon comes from a Speyside producer.
