Tulsa Route 66 Commission Launches New Campaign To Attract Visitors A new campaign encouraging people to shop and dine at different stores on Route 66 through Tulsa is set to begin this weekend. The series is called “Shop 66 Saturday’s,” and is organized by the Tulsa Route 66 Commission. Ken Busby, Director of the Tulsa Route 66 Commission, said the campaign comes at a time when many businesses are starting to rebound after the pandemic. He said the goal is to boost economic development and is a part of a bigger effort to preserve and revitalize Route 66 through Tulsa. Businesses along the route will take part each in its own way, including food, arts and shops. Organizers are hopeful people will travel and spend time in the area as travel begins to increase.

McKee said Avery owned property in Greenwood. He was in the process of platting new homes in the area when the massacre happened.     Credit Tulsa Historical Society    After the massacre, he was one who stood up very strongly to implore the citizens of Tulsa to donate to the fund to rebuild Greenwood, said McKee. He pushed back against the interests who wanted to take Greenwood away from the original property owners to make it an industrial area.
