Tuesday, the city council approved spending $1,002,250 on a sole source resolution from Core and Main for 4,000 new meters and Smartpoint radios as the project’s first phase. During the city’s public services committee meeting on Feb. 9 and at Tuesday’s city council meeting, City Engineer Ryan Zwijack gave a presentation on the topic.

Mayor Hal Patton and other city officials have been trying to engage the village in a partnership deal on this project for several months. Patton said at previous meetings that this project dates back to 2014. The two entities already partner on the pool at SIUE and this agreement would be another example of city-village collaboration.

Fireside plans for the portfolio to include renovations of the multi-family and redevelopment of commercial assets for higher and better use. This portfolio joins the existing Fireside assets, Whispering Heights, Enclave Student Housing and multiple office buildings. Fireside Financial feels that this acquisition combined with the current holdings, is transformative for the company and cities of Edwardsville and Glen Carbon, while strengthening the commitment to the Metro East market of St. Louis.

Edwardsville Mayor Hal Patton and other city officials have been trying to engage Glen Carbon in a partnership deal on this project for several months. The two entities already partner on the pool at SIUE. The agreement is for 20 years with the first payment of $58,500 due in January 2022. While Glen Carbon will borrow $1 million, Patton said Edwardsville will borrow $3.5 million for the project. Patton said the project’s total price is $12.8 million.
