Edwardsville to embark on 4-year water meter project Charles Bolinger, charles.bolinger@edwpub.net FacebookTwitterEmail EDWARDSVILLE One of the larger recent projects Edwardsville Public Works will embark on this year is a four-year plan to replace and upgrade city water meters, residential and commercial, with automated versions that communicate via radio signals. Tuesday, the city council approved spending $1,002,250 on a sole source resolution from Core and Main for 4,000 new meters and Smartpoint radios as the project’s first phase. During the city’s public services committee meeting on Feb. 9 and at Tuesday’s city council meeting, City Engineer Ryan Zwijack gave a presentation on the topic.

Summer school enrollment open for EHS students The Intelligencer FacebookTwitterEmail District 7 is offering Edwardsville High School students opportunities to extend their learning beyond the school year. Many students take advantage of summer school courses to free time in their schedules during the regular school year to pursue more of the elective courses available at Edwardsville High School. Registration for high school summer school begins on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2021, and closes Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at 4:30 p.m. Summer school information will be available online at www.ecusd7.org/summerschoo/registration Hard copies can be picked up from Lincoln Middle School, Liberty Middle School, Edwardsville High School or at Hadley House during regular business hours.

Mayor Hal Patton and other city officials have been trying to engage the village in a partnership deal on this project for several months. Patton said at previous meetings that this project dates back to 2014. The two entities already partner on the pool at SIUE and this agreement would be another example of city-village collaboration.

Fireside Financial invests deeper into local real estate market The Intelligencer FacebookTwitterEmail EDWARDSVILLE Fireside Financial announced the Dec. 15 purchase of a scattered site of mixed asset portfolios comprised of multi-family and commercial assets, in Edwardsville and Glen Carbon. Fireside plans for the portfolio to include renovations of the multi-family and redevelopment of commercial assets for higher and better use. This portfolio joins the existing Fireside assets, Whispering Heights, Enclave Student Housing and multiple office buildings. Fireside Financial feels that this acquisition combined with the current holdings, is transformative for the company and cities of Edwardsville and Glen Carbon, while strengthening the commitment to the Metro East market of St. Louis.

Edwardsville Mayor Hal Patton and other city officials have been trying to engage Glen Carbon in a partnership deal on this project for several months. The two entities already partner on the pool at SIUE. The agreement is for 20 years with the first payment of $58,500 due in January 2022. While Glen Carbon will borrow $1 million, Patton said Edwardsville will borrow $3.5 million for the project. Patton said the project’s total price is $12.8 million.
