Live Burn To Be Conducted By Hickory Fire Department Live Burn To Be Conducted By Hickory Fire Department May 13, 2021 Today (May 13), Hickory firefighters will be conducting a live burn exercise, which consists of burning a house. The training exercise will be held at 1280 10th Street Blvd. NW in Hickory from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.. The exercise will allow firefighters to practice their skills. The drill is offered through Catawba Valley Community College. Plans are for 10th Street Blvd. NW to remain open during the exercise, however, there could be traffic congestion due to the burn.

Almost six years ago, as Donna Carver’s mother was dying, Carver felt lost. Her family talked to a counselor, but that did not help, Carver said. She told her mother she would work hard to make sure no one else felt that way again. It started her on a journey to becoming a counselor herself, but she had her own hurdles to face first. After her mother died, Carver fell into a deep depression. It felt impossible to shake, she said. “It was like you fell into an abyss, and you’re in this deep dark hole and you can’t climb out,” Carver said.

Cotten Field. The Red Hawks finish their first complete season with a 23-13 overall record and 12-8 mark in Region 10 West Division play. “I’m extremely proud of our kids and program completing our first full season,” said CVCC head softball coach Josh Bumgarner. “We saw some ups and downs, but our girls continued to fight and get better. I’m thankful to those who are leaving our program and have left their mark on our program’s short history, and I am also excited for those coming back to continue the success that we have started.”
