The Catawba Valley Community College softball program announces the signing of Hibriten standout pitcher Jillian Jones to its 2021-22 recruiting class.
Jones was 13-0 on the mound for the Panthers this spring with a 0.51 ERA, helping lead Hibriten to a Northwestern Foothills 2A conference championship and she struck out 129 batters and allowed only six earned runs and six walks all season, holding opponents to a .156 batting average.
“We couldn’t be more excited about Jillian joining our program,” said CVCC head softball coach Josh Bumgarner. “She is a big time pitcher that will be big for us next season. We are glad to have her here in Red Hawk Nation.”

CVCC Softball Season Comes to a Close

The Catawba Valley Community College softball team completed its first full season on Saturday, falling in a pair of playoff games to top-seeded Louisburg at Sheilah R. Cotten Field.
The Red Hawks finish their first complete season with a 23-13 overall record and 12-8 mark in Region 10 West Division play.
“I’m extremely proud of our kids and program completing our first full season,” said CVCC head softball coach Josh Bumgarner. “We saw some ups and downs, but our girls continued to fight and get better. I’m thankful to those who are leaving our program and have left their mark on our program’s short history, and I am also excited for those coming back to continue the success that we have started.”

The Catawba Valley Community College softball program starts its second season of play on Friday and Saturday with its first annual Catawba Valley Clash round-robin event.
Five programs are scheduled to participate in the event being held at the Highland Recreation Center in Hickory, including CVCC, Patrick Henry, Surry and Cleveland community colleges and the Montreat JV team.
“We are very excited to be hosting the first-ever Catawba Valley Clash,” said CVCC head softball coach Josh Bumgarner. “What a great way to usher in the restart of college softball and the season by having a bunch of good teams come together and play.”
