Whitmer’s virtual learning request Updated 3:15 PM; Facebook Share GENESEE COUNTY, MI The Grand Blanc, Davison, Kearsley and Fenton school districts have all announced their intentions to continue face-to-face instruction after Governor Gretchen Whitmer asked schools to close their buildings with a rising number of COVID-19 cases in the state. Each district addressed the issue with a letter to parents from its superintendents, who manage their district’s COVID-19 contact tracing information and relay it to the Genesee County Health Department. “We work very closely with superintendents to evaluate their situation in their school district, because we know that a one-size-fits-all approach is not going to be right for every school district within a large geographical county,” Deputy Health Officer Kaleigh Blaney told MLive-The Flint Journal last week.

The board also voted at the same meeting to hire the district’s Assistant Superintendent Paul Gaudard to become the new superintendent starting July 1. “This was not an easy decision for me as Kearsley has always been part of my life,” Walworth wrote in a Tuesday, Jan. 12 letter. Walworth wrote that the board could not have picked a better replacement than Gaudard.
