Milford School Board hears student learning update | Milford LIVE! - Local Delaware News, Kent and Sussex Counties

At their regular meeting in May, Milford School District Board of Education was provided an update on student learning initiatives by Dr. Bridget Amory, Director of Student Learning. Dr. Amory explained that the district, due to additional federal funding provided through the CARES Act, has allowed for “robust” summer programming. “We are currently working through the summer school registration process,” Dr. Amory said. “So far, it has been very favorably received. We anticipate that we will have full enrollment for our summer programs this year.” Another benefit provided to the district is the securing of a language line by the Department of Education that can be used to assist with critical translation needs in the district.

Artist rendering of proposed Milford Middle School buidling In November 2020, the Milford School District was awarded a Certificate of Necessity by the Department of Education to proceed with the process to conduct a referendum in order to refurbish the former Milford Middle School building on Lakeview Avenue. On Mon, April 19, the board agreed to reconvene a committee to confirm the request for a new school. “We need to start having that conversation again about the decision the board will have to make in the near future,” Dr. Kevin Dickerson, Superintendent, said. “We need to get this back on everyone’s radar.”

Deena Johnson, a senior at Milford High School, participated as a finalist in the MLK Voices 4 Youth competition Deena Johnson, a senior at Milford High School who plans to attend college to study either business or health administration, participated as a finalist in the 6 th Annual MLK Voice 4 Youth Finals on Sunday, January 17. The ceremony, which was held virtually due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, was hosted by Kaamilah Diabate, the 2016 winner of the competition and Da’Jour Jones who competed in the 2020 contest. “This is our sixth year providing high school students with an opportunity to voice their opinions on things that are important to them,” Diabate said. “This year has been a difficult year for everyone but even in times of adversity, when the world is shut down, your voice still matters.”
